When we bought the country estate Trnulja in 2002, it looked like a doomed beauty trapped in the dense, spiny branches of blackthorn shrubs. However deserted and overgrown it appeared, the estate beckoned us to look beyond its savage exterior and see it was hiding exactly what we had been looking for. With relentless patience and bounds of good humour, we peeled off the layers of thorny shrubs and stubborn weeds. It was Nature herself that gave our Trnulja its name – in the Slovene language, the word 'trnulja' means 'sloe berry', the fruit of the blackthorn shrub which so stubbornly guarded the estate in the past.
The rejuvenated country estate Trnulja of today bathes in the sunlight and provides a home to a number of our pets and domestic animals – from cats and dogs to horses, ducks, goats, chickens, hens and donkeys. Our organic farm cultivates grains and oleiferous plants, from which it produces cold-pressed organic oils, spreads, white flour and whole-grain flours. Because we like to share our recipe for happiness and healthy living, we decided to open our organic farm to day-trippers and visitors who would like to spend the night (or a few days) in our holiday apartments. We also run our own shop with organic products from our farm and the neighbouring farms.
